High school roundup for April 11, 2024: Shaler baseball, Latrobe softball earn wet wins

Brady Alexander tripled, homered and drove in four runs and Dominic Twigg and Maddox Orga combined on a five-inning no-hitter to lead Shaler to a 12-2 win over New Castle (0-9, 0-5) in Section 1-5A baseball Thursday.
Twigg struck out seven in four innings and Orga worked the fifth. They each allowed an unearned run. Logan Bauer homered and Brady McGuire singled and doubled for the Titans (8-1, 4-1).
Softball
Latrobe 13, Kiski Area 1 – Macie and Mya McHugh each homered as Latrobe defeated Kiski Area in Section 2-5A. Winning pitcher Kayla Williams struck out 10 in five innings for the Wildcats (4-4, 3-1). Corrine Wright was 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI and Sarah Blossey tripled and drove in two. Kaylee Morrow doubled for the Cavaliers (0-6, 0-2).
Boys volleyball
Canon-McMillan 3, Upper St. Clair 0 – Justin Peters had six kills, 12 assists and eight digs to lead Canon-McMillan (7-0, 4-0) to a Section 1-3A win. Luke Bockius had eight kills, Jack Steele added seven and Nolan Rosing finished with 14 digs.
Derry 3, Central Martinsburg 0 – Noah Berkhimer had seven kills, 11 assists and five aces and Mason Beeman also had seven kills as Derry swept a nonsection match. Game scores were 25-8, 25-9, 25-14. Cam McNichol had five kills, six digs and three aces, Johnathan Shumaker dished out 11 assists, and Jacob Sliva recorded six digs.
North Catholic 3, Hopewell 1 – Drew Palmer had 31 kills and Evan Cmiel recorded 49 assists to lead North Catholic to a Section 1-2A win. Games scores were 25-21, 23-25, 25-22, 25-17.
Norwin 3, Penn Hills 0 – Nick Puskaric had 10 kills to lead Norwin to a Section 3-3A sweep. Game scores were 25-13, 25-14, 25-15.
Penn-Trafford 3, Hempfield 2 – Bradley Heinbaugh had 24 kills and Keith Otto added 15 as Penn-Trafford won in Section 3-3A in five games. Game scores were 25-22, 22-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-13. Ezra Glenn had eight kills and five blocks and Nathaniel Rugh handed out 55 assists for the Warriors.
