Former Penn-Trafford lineman Joe Enick transfers to St. Francis

Former Penn-Trafford center Joe Enick, who attended Central Michigan in the fall, recently transferred to St. Francis (Pa.) to continue his football career.

Enick was the 2022 Fralic Award winner as the top lineman in the WPIAL. He entered the transfer portal in early December and enrolled at St. Francis in January.

Enick was the starting center when the Warriors won WPIAL and PIAA Class 5A titles in 2021.

He’s among the more than 20 Penn-Trafford players who are playing in college or will be headed to schools this fall.

From the 2023 team, offensive lineman Zach Tomosovich has an appointment to the United States Military Academy (Army), safety Carmen Metcalfe will be attending Slippery Rock and wide receiver Max Schwenning is headed to Saint Vincent.

Four others, all offensive linemen, are planning to make decisions soon. They are Riley McCaw, Matt Sarnowski, Vito Scarcelli and Waylon Fetty. Sarnowski is deciding between a few options. He also has track offers.

Sarnowski is one of the top throwers – discus and shot put – in the state.

“I’m incredible proud how many players are in college playing and I don’t care at what level,” coach John Ruane said. “They are doing something they love.”

Enick joins former Warriors Nathaniel Frye and Mason Frye on the Red Flash roster.

Some other Penn-Trafford grads playing in college include Cade Yacamelli at Wisconsin, Conlan Greene at Temple, Carter Green (lacrosse) at Seton Hill, Dan Tarabrella at Duquesne and Declan Ochendowski at Cornell.

Playing in the Presidents Athletic Conference are Ian Demari, Cole DeFillippo, Jack Jollie, Gabe Dunlap and Luke Jollie at Grove City and Michael Paterra, Garrett Moorhead and Jake Otto at Case Western.

“All these guys are using football as a way to better their future,” Ruane said. “It’s something to be proud of as a coach.”

Ruane expects college coaches will be around after the college signing date Feb. 7.

He said running back/linebacker Tasso Whipple is drawing interest, and he knows that linebacker Dom Smith, Derek Carr, Jessie Lisbon and Stew Pfeil are planning to play in college.

“These guys love the game,” Ruane said. “Things should start to heat up for them soon.”
