Trib HSSN boys basketball player of the week: Peter Kramer
School: Hampton
Class: Senior
Height: 6-foot-5
Position: Guard
What coach says: “Peter Kramer is such a pleasure to coach,” Hampton coach Joe Lafko said. “He is a leader on the team in practice and particularly in games. He is quick to compliment his teammates for good plays and his recognition of those plays demonstrates his leadership and how he is appreciative of his teammate’s skills.
“He has a strong work ethic and is often the last to leave the gym after practice. He wants the ball in his hands when the game is in the balance. He wants to be the guy to help his team win. This kind of character trait is something that you can’t teach. His teammates and I have the confidence in his skill set to make plays. I am grateful to be able to coach such an elite talent and team leader as Peter.”
#Earned: Kramer entered the week in the top 10 in scoring in the WPIAL and did nothing to hurt his ranking. On Tuesday, the senior scored 24 points as Hampton rolled past Freeport by 32 points. On Friday, in one of the candidates for game of the year, Kramer scored 28 points as the Talbots edged visiting Knoch in dramatic fashion, 51-49. Fellow senior Liam Mignogna hit a game-winning hook shot at the buzzer as Hampton took over sole possession of first place in Section 1-4A.
Background: Kramer has been an elite player since he made a big splash his freshman season. He spent his first two years at Shady Side Academy and helped lead the Bulldogs to a WPIAL championship in 2022. He then transferred to his home school district, Hampton, and helped the Talbots go undefeated in winning the Section 1-4A crown and finish the regular season 20-2. However, due to PIAA transfer rules, Kramer was not eligible for the postseason last year and Hampton lost in the WPIAL quarterfinals to Highlands and in the PIAA second round to Laurel Highlands. Kramer is a Lehigh commit.
