Trib HSSN girls basketball player of the week: Mallory Daly

School: Seton LaSalle

Class: Senior

Position: Guard

What coach says: “Mallory has incredible instincts,” Seton LaSalle coach Jordan Giles said. “There are times that it’s like she knows what you are going to do before you even know you are going to do it. She’s extremely competitive, will take on any challenge, and will step into any role that I ask her to do. Knowing it’s her senior year, she wants to leave everything that she has out on the floor. Mallory is a leader at heart and she has really been putting in the extra efforts outside of just the ‘usual hours’ to help make her team successful.

“Mallory has this natural ability to just take over a game and make the right play when it is needed. She lets her defense translate into her offense and she has a great basketball IQ which lets her see the floor and make the correct decision when we needed it.”

#Earned: Daly enjoyed a nice game Monday in a Section 2-3A win over South Allegheny when she scored 21 points. Sophomore teammate Addie Lonergan led all scorers in the win over the Gladiators with 28 points. On Thursday, Seton LaSalle traveled to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart for a first-place battle, and Daly responded with 28 points as the Rebels rolled past the Chargers to take over sole possession of first place, 63-44.

Background: As a freshman at Brentwood, Daly finished in the top 20 in scoring in the WPIAL, averaging 17.8 points per game. As a sophomore at Seton LaSalle, she finished third in scoring in the district with an average of 23.9 points in leading the Rebels to the WPIAL semifinals and PIAA second round. Last year, she finished fifth in the district in scoring with a 21.7 ppg average. Thus far this season, she has scored nearly 24 points per game.
