Trib HSSN boys basketball player of the week: Joey Dopirak

School: North Allegheny

Class: Senior

Position: Guard/Forward

What coach says: “We have had guys out and we have had to rely on him more as a scorer. The impressive thing has been his efficiency. He’s only taking about 14 shots in those games. His biggest improvement overall this season has been on the defensive end.” — North Allegheny boys basketball coach Dave DeGregorio

#Earned: It was a consistently dominating start to 2024 for Dopirak. On Wednesday, North Allegheny opened up Section 1-6A play with a 12-point victory over New Castle at home as Dopirak led all scorers with 32 points. Two days later, the Tigers traveled to rival Pine-Richland and rolled past the Rams, 50-28. Dopirak outscored the hosts as he registered his second straight 32-point performance.

Background: Dopirak led the Tigers in scoring and rebounding last season with 13.8 points per game and 145 rebounds. At 6-foot-6, his size and skill set presents matchup issues for opposing coaches. His younger brother Bobby is also a member of the Tigers basketball team.
