High school roundup for Dec. 20, 2023: West Allegheny wrestling finishes strong in win over Waynesburg

Blake Schepis (139), Chase Schepis (145) and Nick Jones (152) closed out the match with three straight pins to salt away a 42-22 victory for West Allegheny over Waynesburg in Section 5-3A wrestling Wednesday night.
Caiden Harbert (121) and Cameron Simon (172) also had pins for West A (6-0, 1-0). Waynesburg (2-5, 0-1) got pins from Floyd Huff (189) and Roan Tustin (215), a major decision from Joseph Simon (133) and decisions from Brock Evans (160) and Ky Szewczyk (127).
Allderdice 41, Obama Academy 30 – Javen Woods (133), Zach Schmitt (152), Marcus Wahila (189) and Jhamir Rained (285) won by fall to help Allderdice secure a City League win. Isaac Werner (121), Daniel Cabiness (145), Zayn Dixon (172) and Nahayo Clavel (215) had pins for Obama Academy and Charles Bottoms (127) and Ezekia McHenry (139) earned decisions.
Avonworth 34, South Park 28 – Luke Maddalena (145) and Justin Beck (215) had pins and Michael Tabano (127) won a major decision for Avonworth (3-4, 1-1) in a Section 3-2A match. Nathan Walz (133), Joshua Kuzcma (139), John Price (160) and Parker Cunningham (285) recorded pins and Wyatt Markovich (172) won by major decision for South Park (3-5, 0-4).
Baldwin 42, Mt. Lebanon 33 – Jason Alex, Owen Klodowski and Ramil Islamov recorded three straight pins from 127 to 139 and Keith Mincin, Lachin Islamov and Andrew Sharp did the same from 172 to 215 to lead Baldwin (1-0, 1-0) to a Section 6-3A win. Ayden Miller (114) also had a pin for the Highlanders. Jonathan Emma (107), Evan Sala (121), Joseph Gamble (145), Cole Gibbons and Benjamin Lloyd (285) won by fall and Ben Mares (160) by decision for Mt. Lebanon (1-1, 0-1).
Bentworth 60, Washington 12 – Chris Vargo (133), Vitali Daniels (189) and Zeek Malanosky (215) recorded pins for Bentworth (3-0, 3-0) in a Section 1-2A win over Washington (0-3, 0-3). Caleb Parton (139) and Joe Wilson (285) won decisions for the Prexies.
Burgettstown 42, McGuffey 27 – Daniel Smith (121), Rudy Brown (152), Eric Kovach (160) and Darius Simmons (107) recorded pins while Parker Sentipal (133) won a major decision, Gaven Suica (139) won by tech fall and Brodie Kuzior (215) won a decision for Burgettstown (3-0, 3-0) in a Section 1-2A win. Victor Bonus (145), Reid Teagarden (172), Aaron Supler (189) and Tucker Main (114) recorded pins and Emmett Wolfe (127) won by decision for McGuffey (6-1, 1-1).
Derry 39, Indiana 24 – Anthony Mucci (114), Max Doperak (152) and Brady Brown (189) won by fall, Giovanni Beatrice (139) and Jeremiah Gess (145) won by decision and Nathan Barkley (172) prevailed by decision in overtime as Derry (7-2, 3-0) came back from a 21-9 deficit in Section 6-2A. Conner Sevajian (121) and Nico Fanella (127) picked up pins and Carter Putt (133) and Will Turner (160) won by decision for Indiana (2-2, 1-1).
Ellwood City 48, Summit Academy 18 – Cheyenne Berglund (114), Logan Shriver (127), Gavin McClure (139), Shannon Sikes (145), Colton Gullo (152), Gabe Lilly (160) and Mason Bulick (172) recorded pins as Ellwood City (4-3, 1-1) took a 42-0 lead in a Section 5-2A win. Evan Twedell (215) also had a pin for the Wolverines. Mason Bulick (172), Luca Noronah (189) and Timothy Jackson (285) had pins for Summit Academy (0-3, 0-3).
Fox Chapel 30, Kiski Area 26 – Youssef Abdelsalam earned a 10-5 decision over Tyler Bollinger in the final match at 139 pounds to give Fox Chapel (7-1, 1-0) a Section 1-3A victory. John Deluca (127) and Jackson Pollick (133) took decisions in the previous two bouts to bring Kiski Area (5-7, 0-1)within a point at 27-26. D’Angelo Hamilton (285) and Luke Montgomery (107) won decisions and Landon Funk and Michael Worsen recorded pins as the Foxes won four straight bouts from 285 to 121. Riley Shearer, Evan Artman and Abrahm Taylor recorded pins and Cooper Roscosky won by tech fall as the Cavaliers returned the favor with four straight wins from 160 to 215. Aidan Ortz (145) won by pin and Andrew Kratsa (152) by decision as Fox Chapel jumped out to a 9-0 lead.
Franklin Regional 54, West Mifflin 17 – Luke Ankney (145) recorded a pin and Elisua Daugherty (285) and Henry Patts (172) won by decision to lead Franklin Regional (11-0, 1-0) to a Section 3-3A win. Cooper Dietz (152) and Ahmad Brown (160) won by fall and Ryan Buchleitner (189) recorded a tech fall for West Mifflin (0-1, 0-1).
Greensburg Salem 48, Riverview 6 – The Golden Lions (2-6, 1-2) got pins from Robby Clark (139), Keegan Young (145), Gabriel Doppelheuer (160) and Ethan Miller (172) to pick up their first Section 6-2A win. Alex Wylly (152) picked up a pin for Riverview (0-3, 0-3).
Hampton 39, Knoch 31 – Logan Glock earned a pin at heavyweight to secure a Section 5-2A win for Hampton (5-3, 3-0). Miranda LaJevic (107), Jarrett Crowe (121) and Owen Layhew (152) recorded pins, Braylee Ireland (114) won by major decision and Wyatt Foster (215) by decision for Knoch (2-2, 1-1).
Hempfield 41, Gateway 24 – Ty King (127), Dom Woods (133), Dylan Gootz (139), Eli Carr (152), Pierce Turner (160), Nicholas Marquis (172) recorded pins for Hempfield (1-2, 1-0) in a Section 4-3A win. Connor Smith (145) had a pin for Gateway (2-5, 0-1).

Butler 69, Highlands 63 – Donovan Carney scored 30 points and Braylon Littlejohn added 23 to lead Butler (4-1) past Highlands (3-3) in a nonsection win. Bradyn Foster led the Rams with 24 points and Jordyn Tavarez had 18.

Sto-Rox 70, Brentwood 54 – Lamont Goodwine scored 16 points, David Johnson followed with 14 and Aumir Nelson and Marcus Griffin scored 11 points apiece for Sto-Rox (2-4, 1-1) in a Section 2-3A win. Forrest Betz dropped 18 points and Colton Rosing finished with 15 for Brentwood (2-6, 0-2).
Union 79, Riverside 47 – Braylon Thomas scored 28 points, Lucas Stanley added 22 and Rocco Galmarini had 11 to lead Union (2-5) to a nonsection win. Rob Janis led Riverside (2-6) with 15 points and Darren McDade had 13.
Uniontown 85, Dayton (Ky.) 50 – Jamire Braxton put up 20 points, Notorious Grooms finished with 14, Calvin Winfrey added 12 and Jeremiah Hager followed with 11 as Uniontown (5-0) beat Dayton (Ky.) at the KSA Pre-Holiday Tournament in Orlando, Fla. Kevin Buemi led Dayton with 19 points.

Blackhawk 50, Union 30 – Andrea Kinger scored 14 points and Aubree Hupp had 12 to lead Blackhawk (6-1) to a nonsection win. Kylie Fruehstorfer led Union (4-4) with 13 points.
Burrell 37, Mt. Pleasant 35 – Anna Clark scored a game-high 18 points to lead Burrell (6-0, 1-0) past Mt. Pleasant (5-2, 0-1) in a Section 3-3A win. Morgan Gesinski led with 12 points and Riley Gesinski had 10 for the Vikings.

McGuffey 65, Rochester 55 – Taylor Schumacher led all scorers with 30 points and Libby Mallah added 13 as McGuffey (5-0) beat Rochester (4-3) in a nonsection contest. Kamtryn Newman scored 17 points and Aleaya Mercier followed with 14 for the Rams.
Monessen 43, Brashear 25 – MyAsia Majors scored nine points for Monessen (3-1) in a nonsection win. Ra’Niya Morris led Brashear (3-3) with 12 points.
