Playoff path: North Allegheny beat No. 8 Mt. Lebanon, 2-1 on penalty kicks; and No. 5 Canon-McMillan, 2-1 in overtime. Fox Chapel defeated No. 3 Peters Township, 5-1, and No. 2 Upper St. Clair, 5-2.
Corner kicks: North Allegheny has won three of the past four WPIAL Class 4A championships and has reached the finals in four of the past five years. Moon won in 2021. Stager, a Kentucky commit, was the hero for the Tigers in the semifinals, scoring her 31st goal of the season 22 seconds into overtime. The Tigers have four players who earned All-WPIAL honors this week: senior forward Jadyn Coy, senior defender Libby Earley, junior defender Madison Miller and Stager, who was honored for the second time. The Tigers have outscored opponents 100-12 this season and are averaging 5.0 goals per game. … Two of Fox Chapel’s losses this season came against North Allegheny: 4-3 on Sept. 13 and 3-2 on Oct. 9. The Foxes, who average 3.7 goals per game, have outscored their playoff opponents 10-3. Fox Chapel (8-4-2) finished third in Section 1 behind North Allegheny (14-0) and Seneca Valley (11-2-1). Senior midfielder Friday and junior midfielder Alyssa Quackenbush had two goals apiece in the semifinals. Friday was joined on the All-WPIAL team by senior defender Anna Troutman and freshman forward Emily McKee, who has a team-high 21 goals. Second-year coach Carlo Prati was named the Section 1 Coach of the Year. The Foxes are seeking their first WPIAL title since 1985.
