High school roundup for Feb. 14, 2020: Neshannock tops Washington in OT thriller

Preston Turk made a pair of free throws with 25 seconds left in overtime to lead Neshannock past Washington, 55-54, in a wild WPIAL Class 3A boys basketball first-round matchup Friday night.
Ian Bredniak scored 15 points and Marlon Norris added 13 for eighth-seeded Washington (15-7), which jumped out to a 26-13 lead at halftime.
Spencer Perry scored 17 points and J.P. Mozzocio added 16 for ninth-seeded Neshannock (16-7), which rallied in the second half to take a 47-44 lead in the final minute of regulation.
Bredniak hit a long 3-pointer with less than 25 second left to force overtime.
Neshannock will meet top-seeded Lincoln Park in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Seton LaSalle 62, McGuffey 50 — Michael Bigley scored 17 points and Terrell Truss and Dan Boehme added 10 apiece as fourth-seeded Seton LaSalle (16-6) fought off a game McGuffey (15-8) squad in a Class 3A first-round game. CJ Cole scored 24 points and Ethan Janovich added 12 for McGuffey. Seton LaSalle will meet Aliquippa in Thursaday’s quarterfinals.
Girls basketball
Winchester Thurston 30, Chartiers-Houston 24 — Maya Roberts scored a game-high 17 points and ninth-seeded Winchester Thurston (15-8) held eighth-seeded Chartiers-Houston (12-11) scoreless in the first quarter to secure a Class 2A first-round win. Zamierah Edwards led the Buccaneers with 10 points. The Bears will clash with No. 1 Serra Catholic in the second round on Thursday.
South Side 61, Frazier 47 — Sydney Payne scored 27 points and fifth-seeded South Side (16-7) held No. 12 Frazier to 19 second-half points, breaking open a game that was tied, 28-28, at the half. Sierra Twig led Frazier (9-14) with 20 points. South Side will meet fourth-seeded Laurel in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Ellis School 59, Shenango 39 — Natalie Jasper hit for 31 points as sixth-seeded Ellis School (17-6) recorded a decisive first-round victory. Natalie Graf added 11 points. Kassidy peters and Kylee Rubin scored 11 points apiece for No. 11 Shenango (12-11). Ellis School will meet No. 3 OLSH in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
