Q&A with Plum’s Connor Moss

Plum’s Connor Moss eclipsed 1,000 career points Feb. 5 after scoring 25 in a 52-51 nonconference win over Baldwin. Moss joins another junior, the girls team’s Kennedie Montue, in hitting the milestone. Moss scored more than 20 points 13 times this season and had more than 30 points four times.

How does it feel to be a member of the 1,000-point club as a junior?

It was pretty surreal. It really didn’t hit me until later that night. … 1,000 points is a lot of points.

You were a strong free-throw shooter all season, so was it fitting that your 1,000th point was a free throw?

It is. My grandpa always told me that games are won and lost at the free-throw line, so I’ve taken that to heart.

Are you good friends with Kennedie Montue, and how neat is it to have a boys and girls junior accomplish 1,000 points in the same season?

We are pretty good friends, I would say. I think we both want to become our school’s all-time leading scorers. That’s a goal of both of ours, and if it happens, that would be pretty awesome.

How do you assess the season as a whole?

At the beginning of the year, it was a little bit of a struggle figuring it out with a new coach (Mark Marino), but I really think we played some of the best basketball that we have in a while at our school. At the end of the season, we won five out of our last eight games. We beat Shaler. We beat Hampton. We were one game away from the playoffs. We had an off night, and Indiana, that kept us out.

Have you had any interest from colleges?

I haven’t heard too much, but I hope to hear more in the spring and summer.

What do you feel is the strongest part of your game?

I’d say putting pressure on the defense by scoring the ball. I feel I can shoot pretty well, attack the rim well and hit my foul shots.

What do you feel you want to improve upon as a player?

I want to improve my all-around game. I want to make sure I don’t take any plays off, and I want to become a better defender. I really want to work on my defense.

What are your plans for the offseason?

I should be playing AAU with PK Flash. Along with some other WPIAL guys, I got invited to a showcase at Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, and I’ll probably attend the University of Penn basketball camp.
