The WPIAL added another Division I lineman to the 2020 recruiting class Thursday when Washington’s Chase Mitchell committed to Liberty.

Mitchell announced his decision on Twitter.

The 6-foot-5, 340-pound senior chose Liberty over offers from William & Mary, Seton Hill, Wheeling Jesuit, West Liberty, Tiffin and Notre Dame College. Mitchell earned first-team all-conference honors last season in Class 2A.

Liberty, a Christian university in Lynchburg, Va., just started its second season as an FBS program. The Flames are playing an independent schedule and opened with a 24-0 loss to Syracuse last Saturday.

The team also has Power 5 opponents Rutgers and Virginia on its 12-game schedule.

Mitchell is the latest WPIAL lineman to choose a Division I school. He joins Central Catholic’s A.J. Beatty (North Carolina), Hempfield’s Fintan Brose (Delaware), Mars’ Michael Carmody (Notre Dame), Thomas Jefferson’s Mac Duda (Princeton), Seneca Valley’s Josh Kaltenberger (Purdue), North Allegheny’s Jake Lugg (Harvard) and North Hills’ Ronald Novosedliak (Central Michigan).
