WPIAL Class 2A roundup: Penrod guides Avonworth past Valley

Park Penrod threw for 175 yards and four touchdowns to lead Avonworth to a 47-14 win against Valley (0-2, 0-1) in a Class 2A Allegheny Conference football game Friday night.
Kyros Thorpe caught three passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns for Avonworth (2-0, 1-0) while teammate Jax Miller rushed for 98 yards and three TDs.
East Allegheny 35, Steel Valley 0 — In the Allegheny Conference, J.D. DiNampoli threw for 164 yards and three touchdowns as East Allegheny (1-1, 1-0) upset No. 3 Steel Valley (0-1, 0-1). Kiyon Delts caught three passes for 89 yards and touchdowns of 71 and 20 yards.
Apollo-Ridge 34, Summit Academy 6 — In the Allegheny Conference, Jake Fello tossed for 172 yards and three touchdowns and ran for two scores to lead Apollo-Ridge (2-0, 1-0) to the win against Summit Academy (0-2, 0-1).
Carmichaels 34, Beth-Center 25 — In the Interstate Conference, Carmichaels (1-0, 1-0) opened its season by defeating visiting Beth-Center (0-2, 0-1).
Washington 42, Charleroi 14 — Zahmere Robinson ran for 233 yards and three touchdowns as top-ranked Washington (2-0, 1-0) beat Charleroi (0-1, 0-1) in the Interstate Conference. Amari Miller added two rushing touchdowns for Washington, which gained 351 yards on the ground. Legend Davis scored both Charleroi touchdowns — on a 59-yard punt return and a 9-yard pass from Alex Conrad.
Freedom 34, Shenango 13 — Cole Beck completed 9 of 10 passes for 173 yards and three touchdowns to lead Freedom (2-0, 1-0) over Shenango (1-1, 0-1) in the Midwestern Conference. Anthony Campoli threw for 122 yards and a touchdown for Shenango.
Brentwood 19, South Allegheny 7 — John Milcic threw for 101 yards and a touchdown as Brentwood (1-1, 1-0) defeated South Allegheny (1-1, 0-1) in the Three Rivers Conference. Antonio Epps rushed for 120 yards in the loss.
Burgettstown 35, Seton La Salle 7 — In the Three Rivers Conference, Jake Lounder threw for one touchdown and ran for two more to lead No. 2 Burgettstown (1-0, 1-0) to the win against Seton LaSalle (0-1, 0-1). Cyle Conley added two rushing touchdowns while Joe Ranft threw for 130 yards and Seton LaSalle’s lone TD.
Carlynton 42, Fort Cherry 8 — Dallas Paolino ran for 85 yards and three touchdowns and caught a 28-yard scoring pass to lead Carlynton (2-0, 1-0) to a Three Rivers Conference win against Fort Cherry (0-2, 0-1). Chauncie Mickens returned an interception 69 yards for a touchdown and also had an interception. Noah Babirad led Fort Cherry with 75 rushing yards and its only touchdown.
McGuffey 42, Clairton 27 — Marshall Whipkey threw for 73 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 103 yards and three TDs to lead Class 2A No. 4 McGuffey (2-0) to the nonconference win against Class A No. 1 Clairton (0-2). McKinley Whipkey added 112 rushing yards and a touchdown for the Highlanders.
Brendan Parsons threw for 242 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 55 yards and another score to pace Clairton.
Shady Side Academy 35, Brownsville 12 — Josh Castro ran for all five of Shady Side Academy’s touchdowns in its nonconference win at Brownsville (1-1). Shady Side Academy (1-0) led at halftime, 21-0. Daniel Grant ran for 124 yards and a touchdown for Brownsville.
Ligonier Valley 47, Penns Manor 7 — Kyrie Miller ran for 220 yards and four touchdowns to lead Ligonier Valley (2-0, 1-0) to a Heritage Conference victory against Penns Manor (1-1, 0-1). Sam Sheeder threw for 115 yards and a touchdown and also ran for another score.
