Penn-Trafford’s Sherwin to play baseball at Bucknell

Anthony Sherwin tried to find a reason to choose a different college. He looked for faults in his leading pursuer. But he kept circling back to more positives.
Bucknell was the place to continue his baseball career.
“I chose Bucknell because I thought it was the best fit for me,” said Sherwin, a senior at Penn-Trafford who made a verbal commitment to the Patriot League program. He saw the Bison as an error-free linescore.
“I actually tried finding things I didn’t like about Bucknell before I made my decision,” he said, “but I couldn’t find anything, and that was when I realized I wanted to go to there.”
Sherwin, a sure-handed shortstop who plays travel ball for the Pittsburgh Diamond Dawgs, decided to take his only NCAA Division I offer. He had Division II opportunities at Seton Hill and Cal (Pa.), and Division III Frostburg State also liked his game.
Bucknell started to show interest in Sherwin this summer during the travel season.
“They started recruiting me toward the end of July,” said Sherwin, who started his senior year of high school Thursday.
Sherwin was a key hitter for Penn-Trafford, which had a memorable spring season. The Warriors finished 18-5 after reaching the WPIAL Class 6A championship game and PIAA first round.
Sherwin would become the second member of his immediate family to play a sport in college. His brother, Logan, is a diver at the University of Chicago.
