Mt. Pleasant will go for its second WPIAL softball championship Friday afternoon with it will do so with an even loftier ranking than it had heading into the Class 4A semifinals.
The Vikings (17-0) jumped five spots in the MaxPreps Top 25 national rankings to No. 13 after debuting 18th last week.
The top-seeded Vikings, led by lone senior Carolyn Alincic (13-0) in the pitching circle and a number of talented underclassmen, will take on No. 2 Elizabeth Forward (16-3) at noon Friday at Latrobe High School. The game was postponed Thursday due to unplayable field conditions at Peterswood Park.
Mt. Pleasant has allowed 19 runs all season and is hitting .350 as a team. Alincic, a Morehead State commit, has 162 strikeouts and a 0.92 ERA.
Elizabeth Forward has a 15-game winning streak but never has won a WPIAL title.
Mt. Pleasant won a WPIAL 3A title in 2016 and a PIAA 4A championship in ’17.
The Vikings shut out Elizabeth Forward earlier in the season, 4-0.
