WPIAL baseball playoffs roundup for May 21, 2019: Shaler takes down No. 4 Gateway

Shaler’s Justin DeSabato scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh inning and the No. 5-seeded Titans held off No. 4 Gateway in the bottom of the inning to secure a 2-1 victory in the WPIAL Class 5A quarterfinals Tuesday at Fox Chapel.
Hunter Boyan threw a six-hitter with three strikeouts for the Titans (13-7), who will play No. 1 West Allegheny/No. 8 Mars in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Pullman Park.
Justin DeSabato, Will Jamison and Braeden Campbell all had two hits for the Titans.
Ethan Frenchik was 3 for 3 for Gateway (13-7).
Laurel Highlands 8, Hampton 5 — Nate Zimcosky was 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs to help No. 6 Laurel Highlands (13-6) win a WPIAL Class 5A quarterfinal at Burkett Complex. Greg Hensh had two hits and two RBIs, and Caleb Scott was 3 for 3 for the Mustangs, who will play No. 2 Franklin Regional (17-1) in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Wednesday at West Mifflin.
Class 6A
North Allegheny 4, Butler 2 — Anthony Hattrup threw a four-hitter with seven strikeouts to guide No. 4 North Allegheny (16-5) to a WPIAL Class 6A quarterfinal win at Fox Chapel. Ryan Daugherty had two RBIs, and Jarod Orwell doubled in a run for the Tigers, who will play No. 1 Penn-Trafford (17-3) in the semifinals at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fox Chapel.
