Rarely does the WPIAL have a basketball star whose recruitment stretches nearly coast to coast.

Butler’s Ethan Morton had options nationwide and chose somewhere in the middle.

The 6-foot-5 junior guard committed to Purdue on Thursday night, making his college announcement on Twitter. He had nearly two dozen scholarship offers including Pitt, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio State, Michigan, Marquette, Stanford, Virginia and others.

Morton verbally committed but won’t be able to officially sign until November.

He averaged 27.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 8.1 assists for Butler, which reached WPIAL Class 6A finals for the second time in three years. He was selected as a Trib 10 all-star for the third consecutive season.

Rivals rates Morton as a four-star prospect and ranks him No. 43 nationally among 2020 graduates. Among point guards, Rivals ranks him seventh.

Purdue went 26-10 last season, earned a No. 3 seed in the NCAA tournament and reached the Elite Eight under coach Matt Painter.

The Boilermakers offered Morton in January 2018.
