Yough softball hosting Frazier in ‘Strikeout Cancer’ event

Last year, the Yough softball team raised $6,000 for a pair of classmates who were stricken with cancer. The students since have recovered and are doing better.
Yough’s “Strikeout Cancer” event also is going strong.
The annual fundraiser game will be played again Wednesday as the Cougars host nonsection opponent Frazier for a 4 p.m. start. Elizabeth Forward was the opponent last year for the featured game.
As part of a “color war,” Yough will wear green T-shirts and Frazier, red ones, to support the cause. There also will be a competition to sell shirts: T-shirts will be sold during the game, with proceeds benefiting the Mario Lemieux Foundation.
Each team will “pledge” for highlights during the game, drawing certain dollar amounts for hits, runs, steals, strikeouts and other plays.
Yough also will look to raise money with the help of a local vendor, who will sell shaved ice. A truck will be on site to provide refreshments.
