The WPIAL Class AA doubles final Tuesday turned into something of a Quaker Valley intrasquad scrimmage, pitting the Quakers’ tournament entrants against each other.
Zach Albert and John Watters won the team bragging rights, beating Potter Oliver and Will Sirianni in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) at Oxford Athletic Club to claim their first WPIAL doubles title.
Shady Side Academy’s Naman Dua and Colin Gramley, meanwhile, defended their 2018 championship by beating Peters Township’s Connor Bruce and Elian Ascencio in straight sets (6-4, 6-3) in the WPIAL Class AAA doubles final.
The Class AAA consolation match came down to a three-set battle as Fox Chapel’s Jay Kashyap and Brandon Wei outlasted Allderdice’s Kazuma Parkinson and Sammy Nayhouse in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (4). In Class AA, South Park’s Joey Toth and Stone Ellis beat Thomas Jefferson’s Andy Griffiths and Chad Gress, 6-2, 6-2.
The champions, runners-up and consolation winners advance to the PIAA doubles tournament next month in Hershey.
