High school roundup for April 23, 2019: No. 1 Blackhawk rallies past Central Valley

Class 4A No. 1 Blackhawk scored twice in the top of the seventh to come back and earn a 3-2 win over Central Valley (4-5, 3-4) in a Section 2 game Tuesday afternoon.
Jarrett Wright singled three times and had an RBI, and John Malagise singled, doubled and had a pair of RBIs for the Cougars (8-3, 6-1).
Keystone Oaks 2, Waynesburg 1 — Sam Tortorella pitched a one-hitter and drove in two runs in the bottom of the first to lift Class 3A No. 3 Keystone Oaks (8-2, 6-1) to a Section 3 victory over Waynesburg (5-4, 4-3). Tortorella struck out nine batters, walked one and allowed one unearned run. Luke Robinson took the loss for Waynesburg, but pitched well striking out five over six innings.
Moon 4, Beaver 3 — Moon scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, which was capped off by a Tony Tamillia walk-off single, to rally for a nonsection victory over Beaver (5-6). Tamillia had three hits and a pair of RBIs for the Tigers (6-5). Zach Hansen was 2 for 3 with an RBI for Beaver, which scored all three of its runs in the sixth inning.
Seneca Valley 5, Plum 2 — Cory Greiner and Ryan Mattas had two hits apiece for Class 6A No. 3 Seneca Valley (9-3) in a nonsection victory over Plum (6-8). Evan Sante, Kennie Rose and Anthony Frazetta had a double apiece for the Mustangs.
Derry 7, Knoch 6 — Derry scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, capped off by a walk-off single by Trey Weinell as the Trojans earned a victory over Class 4A No. 3 Knoch (8-3, 4-3) in a Section 1 game.
Weinell had three singles and drove in a pair of runs. Zach Karaschak and Josh Ulery had a double apiece for the Trojans (4-5, 3-4).
Highlands 2, Mt. Pleasant 0 — Noah Gillette pitched a one-hitter and had a two-run homer in the third inning to lead Highlands (8-5, 4-3) to a Section 1-4A victory over Mt. Pleasant (5-6, 3-4). Gillette struck out seven, walked two and added a double for the Golden Rams.
Greensburg Central Catholic 11, Springdale 1 (5 inn.) — Tom Voelker singled twice, doubled and had three RBIs for Greensburg Central Catholic (4-7, 3-1) in a Section 3-A victory over Springdale (1-8, 0-5). Joel LoNigro, Dylan Sebek, Tom Salley and Brendan McGowan had one double apiece for the Centurions. McGowan drove in a pair of runs, and Salley and LoNigro had one RBI each.
Ligonier Valley 3, Marion Center 0 — Sam Sheeder and Sully Schueltz had RBIs each, and Ethan Boring tossed a six-hit shutout with six strikeouts as Ligonier Valley (10-0, 8-0) won a District 6 Heritage Conference game.
Kiski Area 6, Fox Chapel 3 — The Cavaliers scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead for good, beating Fox Chapel in a Section 1-5A baseball game.
Billy Perroz tied the score with a double off the wall. Nick Smith had a go-ahead single, and Zach Morrill added a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. Perroz, who went 3 for 3 with two doubles, gave Kiski Area (5-6, 3-4) insurance with a seventh-inning RBI double.
Garrett Polka had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for the Cavaliers.
Gavin Donaldson and Matt Jerpe doubled and drove in runs for Fox Chapel (6-4, 4-3).
Softball
Baldwin 12, Peters Township 2 (6 inn.) — Cassie Carlson hit a three-run home run, and Adeline Tagg also homered as No. 4 Baldwin (9-2, 8-2) won in Section 1-6A.
Ambridge 11, New Castle 3 — The Bridgers (7-2, 3-2) scored eight runs in the top of the seventh to pull away for a Section 3-4A win. Alex Bupp, Zoe Staley and Alexandra Peters each had three hits for Ambridge. Bupp drove in five runs, Haylee Holman added a home run and four RBIs, and Brenna Thomas also homered for the Bridgers. Annalynn Wharry collected two hits and an RBI for New Castle (3-5, 3-3).
Carmichaels 4, Frazier 2 — Carmichaels scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally past Class 2A No. 1 Frazier in a Section 3 contest. Kylie Sinn and Mia Ranieri each had two hits and an RBI for Carmichaels (10-3, 7-2), and Sinn picked up the pitching victory. Logan Hartman collected two hits and knocked in a run for Frazier (9-2, 7-2), which had grabbed a 2-1 lead with a run in the top of the fifth.
Hempfield 5, Fox Chapel 1 — Emma Hoffner hit a three-run homer to lead Hempfield (7-5, 7-3) to a Section 2-6A victory. Amelia Herzer had two hits, including a double, for Fox Chapel (3-8, 2-8).
Albert Gallatin 12, Latrobe 1 (5 inn.) — Albert Gallatin (5-6, 5-5) scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure a Section 1-5A win. Winning pitcher Maddy Hershberger was 3 for 3 with three RBIs. Makayla Munchinski doubled for Latrobe (10-3, 7-3).
Penn-Trafford 8, Kiski Area 2 — Emma Armstrong had a double and two RBIs, and Carlee Lamacz had a two-run triple as No. 1 Penn-Trafford (11-0, 9-0) won a Section 1-5A game.
Thomas Jefferson 5, Belle Vernon 1 — Lily Rockwell, Claire Whalen and Graci Fairman all had two hits, and Abby Chalovich doubled in a run as No. 5 Thomas Jefferson (10-2, 6-2) won a Section 2-4A game. Sophia Godzack had an RBI for Belle Vernon (5-10, 3-6).
Deer Lakes 15, Derry 2 (5 inn.) — Deer Lakes scored eight runs in the third inning en route to a Section 1-3A victory at Derry (3-7, 3-4). Kam Kelly doubled twice and singled for the Trojans.
Southmoreland 12, Waynesburg 9 — No. 4 Southmoreland (7-3, 6-3) smacked 21 hits in a Section 3-3A victory. Faith Miller was 4 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, and Tyson Martin, Abby Fullem and Maegan Shetterly each homered for the Scotties. Rachel Elsenheimer was 4 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs for Waynesburg (5-6, 2-5).
Jeannette 16, Geibel 0 (5 inn.) — Faith Johnston was 3 for 5 with two triples and six RBIs as Jeannette (6-2, 5-2) won a Section 3-A game. Johnston also threw a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts. Abby Mortimore had a double and four RBIs.
Ligonier Valley 12, Marion Center 2 (6 inn.) — Maddie Griffin and Courtney McKleveen each had four hits as Ligonier Valley (9-0, 7-0) rolled to a District 6 Heritage Conference win. McKleveen homered and had seven RBIs, and Mia Lynn added three hits. Jane Garver stuck out nine in the win.
Burrell 13, East Allegheny 0 (5 inn.) — Kylie Karns pitched a one-hitter, walking one and striking out eight, as No. 3 Burrell (7-2, 5-1) rolled to a Section 1-3A win over East Allegheny (0-8, 0-7). Kayla Santucci doubled twice and drove in a run for the Bucs, while Sara Clark and Mia Horwatt each had two hits and two RBIs.
