The North Allegheny softball team stayed undefeated Thursday afternoon with a key, early-season victory.

Rachel Martindale doubled and homered to help the No. 3 Tigers defeat No. 1 Seneca Valley, 6-2, in a Section 2-6A game in McCandless.

Kristen Chomos and winning pitcher Ashley Adams also knocked in runs for the Tigers (7-0, 6-0), who stand alone atop the section standings.

Losing pitcher Claire Zimmerman had an RBI single for Seneca Valley (7-2, 4-2).

Montour 5, Moon 4 (8 inn.) — Angelina LaMarca’s sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning scored Abby McClean with the winning run as Montour (5-3, 5-1) won in Section 3-5A. Izzy Mannino was 3 for 5 for the Spartans.

Trinity 12, South Fayette 10 — Kylie Poland and Emma Morgan each homered and had two RBIs, and Marlaina Bozek knocked in three runs as No. 3 Trinity (7-2, 4-1) won in Section 3-5A.

Mara Iagnemma was 4 for 4 for South Fayette (6-5, 3-3).

Frazier 11, Charleroi 1 — Kathryn Barch had three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs, and Megan Celaschi hit a grand slam as No. 3 Frazier (7-1, 5-1) won in Section 3-2A.

Freedom 16, New Brighton 5 (5 inn.) — In Section 4-2A, Tara Speicher was 4 for 4 with three RBIs, and Shyann Komara doubled, homered and had three RBIs to lift No. 4 Freedom (9-1, 7-1) to victory.

Mohawk 5, Neshannock 2 — Lexie Shiderly hit a two-run home run to help Mohawk (5-2, 4-2) win in Section 4-2A.

West Greene 12, Mapletown 0 (5 inn.) — McKenna Lampe had three hits, including a double and a home run, and Madison Lampe had two doubles and a single as No. 1 West Greene (7-3, 4-0) won in Section 2-A. Jade Renner threw a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts.

Norwin 6, Hempfield 1 — Norwin erupted for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning en route to a Section 2-6A win.

Angelina Pepe scattered six hits and had six strikeouts over six innings to earn the statement victory for the Knights (6-2, 5-2), who have won three straight games and six of their last seven. Carly Cook, Hailee Culbertson and Pepe all had two hits. Alexandra Dillner added an RBI single.

Laura Fox was 2 for 4 with an RBI for Hempfield (5-4, 5-2).

Mt. Pleasant 10, Uniontown 0 (5 inn.) — Mary Smithnosky threw a two-hitter with five strikeouts as No. 1 Mt. Pleasant (8-0, 5-0) won in Section 1-4A. Katie Hutter had two hits and four RBIs, and Rae McNair and Lexis Shawley each had two RBIs. Autumn Shogun went 3 for 3 with a double, and Smithnosky had two hits and an RBI.

Yough 12, Greensburg Salem 0 — Kierra Waywood spun a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts to help No. 2 Yough (6-4, 4-1) win a Section 1-4A game. Waywood also went 3 for 5 with a double, a home run and five RBIs. Hannah Christner and Kaylynn Odelli each had two hits and two RBIs for the Cougars. Kasey Storkel was 2 for 3 for the Golden Lions (2-6, 1-4).

Derry 10, East Allegheny 1 — Gianna Copelli and Maddie Berger each went 3 for 4 as Derry (2-5, 2-3) won a Section 1-3A game. Derry scored five times in the first inning to take control. Alexis Jellison struck out six in the win.

Greensburg Central Catholic 16, St. Joseph 5 — Anna Vitale was 2 for 4 with a double and five RBIs to lead Greensburg Central Catholic (3-4, 3-2) to a Section 3-A victory.

Kiski Area 16, Armstrong 4 (5 inn.) — The Cavaliers put eight runs on the board in the first inning and rolled past Section 1-5A rival Armstrong (0-8, 0-7). Kasandra Cessna doubled twice and tallied five RBIs and also picked up the win from the circle for Kiski Area (1-6, 1-6). Courtney Moyer singled twice and drove in three runs, and Ashlee Bair and Abby King both drove in two runs for the Cavaliers.

Fox Chapel 5, Pine-Richland 2 — Neena Pietropaolo singled twice and tripled for Fox Chapel (2-4, 2-4) in a Section 2-6A win over Pine-Richland (2-5, 2-5). Mackenzie Borkovich pitched a complete game allowing two runs and had six strikeouts. Brynn Palmer and Amelia Herzer had a double each for the Foxes. Alexia Brown doubled twice for the Rams.

Baseball

Canon-McMillan 10, Brashear 2 — Cam Weston homered and doubled, and Brycen Birgilli was 3 for 3 with a double and RBI as Canon-McMillan (7-3, 3-1) won in Section 3-6A.

New Castle 7, Quaker Valley 3 — Dante MiCaletti was 2 for 2 with two RBIs to help New Castle (4-3, 3-0) win in Section 2-4A.

Hopewell 10, New Brighton 0 — Jake McGovern threw a one-hitter, and Alex Kunzmann was 2 for 3 with two RBIs as No. 1 Hopewell (7-2, 5-0) won in Section 2-3A.

Plum 5, Penn Trafford 2 — Evan Sante doubled to score Chandler Yocca as Plum scored four runs in the fifth inning to upend Class 6A No. 2 Penn-Trafford in a Section 2 matchup. Jared Hoener gave up five hits and struck out five through 6¹⁄₃ innings to pick up the win for Plum (4-6, 1-2). Zachary Kelly took the loss for Penn-Trafford (9-1, 2-1).

Franklin Regional 16, Woodland Hills 0 (6 inn.) — Mike Klingensmith threw a two-hitter with eight strikeouts to help Franklin Regional (7-1, 4-0) win a Section 1-5A game.

Thomas Nicely was 3 for 3 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Jake Williams was 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Louie Kegerreis and Matthew Fitzmaurice each tripled and had three RBIs.

Greensburg Salem 9, Indiana 3 — Sage Parsley was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, and Dajauhn Hertzog had two hits and two RBIs as No. 1 Greensburg Salem (7-1, 3-1) won in Section 1-4A. Matt Wicker and winning pitcher Noah Sweeney also knocked in runs for the Golden Lions, who scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Highlands 8, Yough 6 — Jaden Yaris tripled and drove in three runs to lead Highlands (5-4, 1-3) to a Section 1 victory over Class 4A No. 4 Yough (6-3, 4-1). Jett Slepak pitched five innings and allowed one earned run to get the win. Zac Kuniak doubled for the Golden Rams. Caden Kastronis doubled, and Sean Royer took the loss for Yough.

Jeannette 14, Riverview 3 (6 inn.) — Drake Petrillo was 4 for 4 with a double, triple and four RBIs, and Zander added two doubles and three RBIs as Jeannette (6-2, 2-1) won in Section 3-2A. Derrick Miller was 3 for 5, Devin Houser had two RBIs, and Alex Vickers scattered seven hits with eight strikeouts for the Jayhawks. Mark McClelland doubled for Riverview (1-5, 0-3).

Connellsville 10, Mt. Pleasant 6 — Cade Warrick had three hits to help Connellsville (3-1) win a nonsection game. Trevor Mason smacked three hits for the Vikings (4-3).

Deer Lakes 3, Steel Valley 2 — Greg Geis hit a single into the right-center field gap that scored Josh Probst to propel Deer Lakes to a win over No. 2 Steel Valley in a Section 1-3A game.

The Lancers (4-3, 4-0) trailed 2-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, but Probst singled in Cory Newman to tie the game before Geis’ walk-off. Probst and Newman had two singles apiece. Justin Brannagan earned the win in relief, pitching 1¹⁄₃ scoreless innings. The Lancers beat No. 4 Burrell on Wednesday.

Leechburg 10, Springdale 0 (6 inn.) — Cameron Curfman gave up four hits and struck out four batters over five innings as Leechburg cruised past Section 3-A rival Springdale (1-6, 0-3). Mario Leonard doubled and knocked in three runs to lead Leechburg (2-5, 1-2). Roman Yurjevich went 3 for 4 at the plate and added an RBI, and Anthony Mangee hit an RBI triple for the Blue Devils. Justin Botinovich took the loss for Springdale.

Valley 9, East Allegheny 8 — Shane Demharter hit a two-run homer, and Cayden Quinn doubled twice and drove in a run for the Vikings (2-6, 2-2) in a Section 1-3A win over East Allegheny (0-5, 0-4). Valley scored five runs in the top of the seventh and withstood a five-run East Allegheny rally in the bottom of the frame to earn its second straight win.

Kiski Area 12, Penn Hills 6 — Ryan Rametta hit a two-run single to spark an eight-run sixth inning as the Cavaliers rallied from a 6-2 deficit to beat Section 1-5A opponent Penn Hills (0-6, 0-4). Matt Skelly, Zach Morrill and Ryne Wallace powered the Kiski Area offense with two RBIs a piece. Nick Smith pitched the final two innings, giving up no hits and striking out three batters to get the win for the Cavaliers (5-4, 2-2).
