Newcomer Lee buoys Penn-Trafford boys tennis squad

The Penn-Trafford boys tennis team (4-1 in Section 1-AAA) lost its top player but has an able replacement.

Sophomore Brian Lee ranked 24th among college prospects in his class in Pennsylvania by the Tennis Recruiting Network as of April 2.

“Brian did not play his freshman year,” Penn-Trafford coach Jane Debone said. “We are excited to see great things from him.”

Lee steps in at first singles for Turner Price, the two-time reigning Section 1-AAA singles champion. Price is a freshman on the Pitt-Greensburg men’s team.

Lee said he wants to be a good leader.

“I just want to encourage (my teammates),” he said.

Junior Adam Yamrick replaces Kevin Lee, Brian’s brother, at second singles.

Kevin Lee teamed with Price for section doubles titles the past two seasons.

Debone said Yamrick is off to a strong start.

Junior Sam Painter competes at third singles.

Sophomore Alex Turowski and senior Brian Mueller and sophomore Sahit Sudadi and senior Luke Babik form doubles teams.

Senior Brenno Ferriera fills in at doubles.

Junior Jordan Spiegel and sophomore Justus Laskey are reserves.

“We have a lot of depth along with a very strong first singles,” said Babik, a standout swimmer. “The section title could be achievable.”

The Warriors placed second to Franklin Regional in the section last season. They lost in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs.

Franklin Regional handed them their only loss this season in the opener.
