Fox Chapel track teams hope to build off indoor season

The Fox Chapel track team is hard at work with hopes of a successful spring season.

“We lost some seniors but are looking forward to our returning athletes working hard and having a good season,” FC coach Tom Moul said.

On the girls side, the Foxes return a dozen letter winners. Senior Kate Carnevale is back to run the sprints, and Moul is hoping for a strong performance.

“She was not healthy for most of last season,” Moul said. “She was back in form for the indoor season, and we hope she can build off of that.”

Other seniors are Sarena Seeger, Annika Urban, Eras Yager and Anna Folkerts. Seeger was fourth at WPIALs last year in the 3,200-meter run and qualified for states. Urban and Folkerts run distance, and Yager throws the shot put and discus.

Junior Grace Sisson was third in the 3,200 at the WPIALs and qualified for states. Junior Brooke Krally finished ninth in the 1,600 at WPIALs and narrowly missed earning a medal. Other returning juniors are Maddie Kieffer, who will run the 200 and 400; Abbie Kieffer, who runs the 400 and 800; Yezzi Chaudhry in the discus and javelin; and Amanda Schilcher who, along with sophomore Jing McCann, will handle throwing events.

For the boys, seniors Korey Simmons, Greg Overbeck and Ian Brown are back. Simmons is a hurdler while Overbrook and Brown are both distance runners. Junior Christian Fitch, who was third at WPIALs and qualified for states in the 3,200, returns, along with junior Evan Kieffer in the 400.

Mouls is looking for solid contributions from freshmen Maurice Sampson-Schulter and Jack Lorence.

“Maurice had a very good season running sprints while Jack is a distance runner who also had a very good indoor season,” Mouls said.

The Foxes will compete in Section 3-AAA, along with Seneca Valley, North Hills, North Allegheny, Shaler, Pine-Richland and Butler.

“We will again be in a very strong section,” Mouls said. “We will have to put in a lot of hard work to be competitive. We’re looking forward to having a successful season. After our success in the indoor season, we are optimistic.”
