HERSHEY — When Canon-McMillan’s Jimmy Baxter (120 pounds) and Kenny Hayman (126) lost early in the Big Macs’ match against District 3 champion Cedar Cliff, Canon-McMillan coach Jason Havelka knew it would be tough to win.
Cedar Cliff, after losing the first match at 113 pounds, won eight consecutive bouts and rolled to a 43-16 victory in the first round of the PIAA Class AAA tournament Thursday at the Giant Center.
Baxter dropped a 9-4 decision to Creed Bogardus, and Hayman fell to J.J. Wilson, 1-0.
It wasn’t until Gerrit Nijenhuis (182) got a pin that Big Macs fans had something to cheer about. Evan Miller won by a major decision at 195, and Giomar Ramos won in overtime at heavyweight.
Canon-McMillan faces Selinsgrove at 10 a.m. in the consolation bracket.
