The Quaker Valley boys basketball team, after dominant victories over Brashear and Vincentian Academy at the season-opening Moon tournament, continues its early-season run at home Tuesday against 5A Albert Gallatin.
Last year’s WPIAL 4A runner-up and state semifinalist also will host District 10’s Wilmington on Friday before its Section 2 opener at Beaver Area on Dec. 18.
The Quakers averaged 61.5 points scored in the tournament wins over the weekend and limited their opponents to a 38.5 per-game average.
Panthers hope to put one in win column
After a pair of tough losses at the Baldwin/Peters Township tournament over the weekend, the Sewickley Academy boys basketball team hopes to bounce back Tuesday in nonsection action against Serra Catholic.
The Panthers suffered a close setback to North Catholic (70-65) in the opener last Friday and fell to 6A Butler 71-56 in their second game Saturday.
The 2017-18 WPIAL 2A champion and PIAA semifinalist begins Section 3 play Friday at home against Mohawk.
Sewickley Academy travels to Geneva College on Saturday for The Clash II against Akron Coventry, Ohio. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
Quakers unable to solve Latrobe
Cole Musser, Dylan Roebuck and Noah Mattie each scored a goal but the Quaker Valley hockey team fell short against Latrobe, 6-3, in a PIHL Varsity AA game Monday evening.
The Quakers dipped to 2-8-0-1.
Luke Melisko, Joshua Bemis, Daniel Fagan and Christopher Barefoot provided assists for QV, and Colin Rice made 24 saves.
Quaker Valley will return to action Monday against Franklin Regional at the Baierl Ice Complex in Warrendale.
